Mission

Our mission at Bull City Field Hockey Club is to elevate the game in North Carolina. Our aim is to compete at the national level and believe taking a holistic approach to player development. We are committed to instilling the “Strong Like Bull” core values within each player. We aim to elevate technique, tactics, character and culture. Each component is essential for success on and off the field.

Solid basic skills are the foundation of every great player. Zooming in on the small details that contribute to successful skill execution helps educate our athletes at a much deeper level. We believe slow is smooth, smooth is fast: only by going slow and ensuring athletes are doing things correctly can they then perform skills with power and speed. Moving with awareness and intention allows athletes to self correct and liberates them to attend to higher level thinking - such as decision making and tactics.

Like technique, tactical awareness takes time and patience to develop. But instead of zooming in, we teach athletes to zoom out and see the big picture. To do this requires an open mind, curiosity and reflection from the athlete and persistent, consistent messaging and feedback from the coaches. Our goal is for our teams to play together with intention and not individually on autopilot.

We don't just pay attention to the technical and tactical aspects of field hockey - but, most importantly, the character of an athlete and the behavior of the group that drives team culture. We understand the importance of body language, self talk, attitude, energy and mindset for the growth of the individual athlete and the team as a whole. The coaching staff closely monitors and guides the language used by club members in order to shape our Strong Like Bull mentality. Our mantra is "No Complaining, No Excuses" - we honor and respect our training environment and take accountability for our actions. We set high standards for each of our core values and take pride in our holistic approach.

Bull City Field Hockey aims to grow and elevate the sport of field hockey in the state of North Carolina. We aim to be nationally competitive. No matter the level, our goal is for every player to find joy in the growth process of learning and developing the sport of field hockey.
